Birthday Bash 2013 with Stamper's Best

We are celebrating Operation Write Home's Birthday with a blog hop with Stampers Best, who makes some fabulous fundraiser stamps to benefit Operation Write Home.

Here are my 2 AnyHero cards. AnyHero cards have a thankyou message written in them before sending overseas and are given to someone who doesn't get mail.
Welcome Home stamp by Stampers Best

A friend showed me how to use the smoke from a lamp to get soot on some glossy cardstock then we used our stamp to remove soot and create an image.  We sprayed the paper with a fixative to set it so the soot would not come off.
I love the unique look it gives to the image. Background stamp is Hero Arts Envelope Liner background.

On this card I used the Stampers Best stamp, Old Glory, a Hero Arts Thanks A Bunch sentiment, and Hero Arts Charcoal shadow ink. Here is the link to the Old Glory stamp.

    That soot technique sure is powerful! Especially today, the soot reminds me of the fallen towers. We actually have some of the girders from the Towers installed in our town's memorial here in Ohio. Very, very powerful!

    You've done fantastic job with an old favorite technique (we used to use candles)! Just don't do this too close to the smoke detector (ask me how I know ...)

    For anyone wanting to replicate the soot process, check out StampTV for a video. Gina K just reposted it yesterday!! It was a "moldy oldy" from 4 or 5 years ago. I've always found the results stunning, but forget to do it. Your cards are great examples of it and I'm sure a hero will be impressed by the look.

    Oh wow what a great technique, these are truly unique cards. The Old Glory stamp is one I often use, not like you did here, but I have used with distress ink and antiqued it up a bit. Thanks for sharing your incredible talent.

      It is not chalkboard. It is created by using smoke from a lamp to create soot and stamping on that.

    I love the soot look.

    We did some cards using this technique in a class I took a couple of years ago.

    It's been a while since I've attempted it. And the last time their was supervision around. LOL

    But I may have to give it a try again.
